NO SWEET HOME: How the rent madness is destroying our homes and our cohesion
Reading and discussion with Lara Schulschenk
Moderation: Auftrag Südstadt e.V.
On this evening, author Lara Schulschenk will take a systemic look at the housing crisis with us and we would like to discuss possible courses of action.
Because rents are not rising, they are being increased!
Rents are exploding, affordable housing is becoming scarcer and more and more people fear for their homes. But how did it get this far?
Lara Schulschenk shows: The housing crisis is no coincidence, but
the result of political inaction and a system that puts profit before people.
Schulschenk exposes the mechanisms behind rising rents and the lack of living space:
Lobbyism, deliberately created scarcity and narratives that
block change.
She demands: It's time to name the real causes of the crisis - and finally take action.
- 58% of all Germans live in rented accommodation.
- Since 1990, the number of social housing units in Germany has fallen from 3 to 1 million.
- 25% of owner-occupancy terminations are faked.
- On average, German households spend 30% of their household income on rent, poor households 50%.
Lara Schulschenk studied sociology in Frankfurt and graduated from the German School of Journalism in Munich. She was a reporter for the Frankfurter Rundschau and worked for SPIEGEL for a long time. Today she researches, writes and presents as a freelance journalist. Lara Schulschenk lives in Hamburg.
