QUEERHISTORYMONTH
QueerHistoryMonth will take place in Hamburg from May 1 to 31, 2026(www.queerhistoryhamburg.de). Various events as part of the festival will bring the history(ies) of the queer community in Hamburg to life. Everyone is welcome - kings, queers, queens, allies, friends, families (of choice) and everyone in between and beyond!
The event
Queer storytelling café: discovering memories, stories and treasures together. Over coffee and cake, living city history emerges from personal experiences and encounters.
Once again this year, we invite you to join us for coffee and cake on a relaxed Sunday afternoon to talk about queer history that is connected to Hamburg and to us as its residents.
Which queer pioneers were active here? What alliances were forged? What surprising stories of love, friendship or resistance still lie dormant in your memories? In the storytelling café, we collect personal stories and memories - thus creating an oral queer city history, told by those who have experienced it themselves.
In our spontaneous collective library, you can browse through books, journals, photo albums and magazines that you have brought with you - or discover little treasures from past queer decades. We especially welcome books, photos and objects (preferably from the 1970s and 1980s) - together with their stories, they are our V.I.P. guests.
Drinks and cake will be provided - cake donations are very welcome! If you would like to help out or get involved, please contact the organizing team in advance: geschichtswerkstatt@gitteschmitz.de
The queer history workshop is coordinated by Simon Schultz and thrives on the voluntary commitment of all those involved. Thanks to everyone who makes this space possible!
