QUEERHISTORYMONTH
QueerHistoryMonth will take place in Hamburg from May 1 to 31, 2026(www.queerhistoryhamburg.de). Various events as part of the festival will bring the history(ies) of the queer community in Hamburg to life. Everyone is welcome - kings, queers, queens, allies, friends, families (of choice) and everyone in between and beyond!
The event
At the graves we remember the dead - and celebrate the life that remains.
At Ohlsdorf Park Cemetery, there is the Memento gravesite for queer people and their loved ones. Does this go hand in hand with a different, "queer" culture of mourning and remembrance? We think: yes! Every year on Whit Monday, bereaved and interested people meet at this place. We remember the deceased and our shared history, lay flowers - and enjoy a picnic.
Because just as queer people shape their (living) communities and networks themselves, this grave site should be the same. In addition to mourning and silence, we celebrate life at the graves of the dead and rejoice in it - without limiting or belittling taboos.
As part of QueerHistoryMonth, Memento e.V. invites interested queers and friends to visit this special place. There will be information about the gravesite, the association and the people who are buried there. Their life stories also reflect the fight for the rights of our community.
