Shannon Barnett Quartet

In the organizer's words:

In 2014, a trombonist from Australia came to Cologne via New York to become the second woman to join the WDR Big Band. Apart from a few albums that had crossed her path by chance, she knew nothing about the local jazz scene. However, that was soon to change; this thriving ecosystem of the Cologne jazz scene surprised and inspired Shannon Barnett.

Through the scene, she met Fabian Arends, David Helm and Stefan Karl Schmid and quickly formed a quartet - a much-needed outlet for her creative impulses.

Since then, the band has released three albums and toured Europe and Australia, constantly refining their own band sound and language while all members pursued their own musical interests.

You can hear this individual and collective growth; Barnett's compositions serve as a vehicle for adventures the band has experienced together in their eleven years of existence.
