Simple Machines • kwaad bloed vzw.

In the organizer's words:

Dancing robots hatch out of crazy cocoons and crawl across the table like strange caterpillars. Some grow hair, others stumble around like little dogs. Some turn smoothly in all directions, others repeat the same movement monotonously.

The robots become dancers, each with their own form and their own possible repertoire of movements. The choreographer plays with making himself superfluous. The result is a ballet for self-built robots without the intervention of human choreographers. With the help of artistic AIs, the dancing machines develop their own piece from the data collected live from the performances.

Simple Machines tells the story of an artist who abolishes himself. He leaves the stage to the unique physical possibilities of the machines and the choreographic abilities of artificial intelligence. In doing so, Ugo Dehaes has created a playful robot ballet that humorously and vividly questions how we want to deal with the digital transformation.

After the performance, the audience is invited to teach the robots new movements themselves.
