Piano Concerto • Simon Steen-Andersen / NDR Radiophilharmonie / Ning Yu / Vimbayi Kaziboni

In the organizer's words:

Rumble: A grand piano falls - only in the movie, of course! - from a height of eight meters. In impressive slow motion, we see splinters of wood fly and strings snap. And while this video plays above the stage, the American pianist Ning Yu sits calmly at a freshly tuned grand piano - ready to play both instruments at the same time.

What looks dramatic is actually a playful, imaginative moment devised by composer Simon Steen-Andersen. The piece is an invitation to rediscover sounds - with humor, energy and a great deal of curiosity. While the broken instrument in the video cracks, scrapes and rattles, the intact piano on stage emits well-tempered tones. Together they form a super instrument to which the NDR Radiophilharmonie under the direction of the rousing guest conductor Vimbayi Kaziboni listens closely - and responds with its own sound ideas, noises and melodies.

This concert is an adventure for ears young and old: colorful, surprising and full of moments to marvel, smile and laugh at. Ideal for curious children and families and for anyone who wants to experience music in a completely different way.
