Ensemble SOL combines music and dance to create a performative collage of shared memories - and invites the audience to spin this material further.

"A summer evening in a café by the river in northern France, a forge with sparks flying, libraries, barns, light-flooded museums and dimly lit jazz clubs - we've played together in all these places over the last three years, with double bass, saxophone and dance. All these performances and the people we met there have shaped and inspired us. This has resulted in our own repertoire of pieces, scenes and games between music, dance and performance.
What does that sound like? Warm, melodious, but also surprising and quirky, empathetic and multi-faceted. On the double bass and saxophone, we explore the sonic possibilities of our instruments and of playing together. We interweave melodies from baroque, classical, jazz and pop with free improvisations, sound experiments and our own compositions to create musical stories. And what does that look like? Djamila combines contemporary dance and shadow play with the specific conditions of the space. In the interplay, the dance becomes visual music and the sounds become audible movements."
