Tag der Frauenarchive im LOPA

May 11 is the "Day of Women's Archives " - an initiative of the i.d.a. umbrella organization of German-speaking lesbian/women's archives, libraries and documentation centres. The abbreviation i.d.a. stands for inform, documentand archive. Many of its members and institutions open their doors on this day. This includes the Louise-Otto-Peters-Archive in Leipzig.

Archive staff will report on the beginnings of the archive, which was founded in 1997, and provide insights into the archive work carried out on a voluntary basis. The LOPA focuses on the life and work of the democratic writer, journalist and women's politician Louise-Otto-Peters (1819-1895), the founding history of the General German Women's Association and the work of its protagonists.

There will also be insights into current and past projects: For example, an explanatory film about the first all-German women's conference in Leipzig in 1865 will be shown. This was created in 2025 in collaboration with an animation artist. A radio play was also produced for the 1865 women's conference, which can be listened to on site. The fem/pulse project, which was launched in 2022, has been dedicated to Jewish women in the first women's movement since last year in the podcast "Unüberhörbar".

The current DDF project illustrates feminist archive practice and knowledge transfer. This is being done using the example of the journal "Neue Bahnen", the organ of the ADF published from 1866 onwards, for which an analog register of persons, places and keywords has existed in the LOPA since the 1990s. This project is part of the projects of the Digital German Women's Archive.

There is a lot to discover - also on the book table! All those interested in women's and gender history are welcome on this day from 1.00 pm to 5.00 pm.
