On the last night before the start of the great war, people party as if they could dance away the doom. The Day Before takes us right into the heart of this shimmering eve of the apocalypse, in which the audience, performers, percussionists and a choir of young women unite to form a community of destiny. Homer's Iliad, the primal myth of warlike violence, forms the blueprint for an intoxicating celebration on the precipice.

Composer Brigitta Muntendorf, director Christiane Jatahy and author Rosa Montero put the ancient heroic epic of male-coded violence to the test, following the visionary interpretation of French philosopher Simone Weil - can there be a future without omnipotent saviors? How can hope for healing and a better future be kept alive in the face of doom?

Through the creative use of 3D audio, AI voice cloning and live cameras, voices, sounds, noises, movements and images are condensed into an immersive experiential space that unfolds its own reality between fiction and reality. The impending danger creates a vibrant energy, a political sense of community that makes a different, better future seem possible.

For The Day Before not only deals with the foreboding of catastrophe, but is also a ritual of the future that reminds us that every change begins with a decision: it is up to us to decide what will have been.

ACCESSIBILITY

Access to the DHC hall is barrier-free. Tickets for wheelchair-accessible seats and escorts in the DHC-Halle are available at the HAZ & NP advance booking offices. The event is not seated. Visitors are invited to move freely around the room. A limited number of seats will be made available for people with disabilities.
