Public themed tour - In 1181, Emperor Frederick I Barbarossa summoned the Imperial Diet to his magnificent palace in Gelnhausen, which had just been completed.
In the Middle Ages, when an emperor, prince, bishop or abbot decided to build a palace, castle or church, it was a huge task. How was the magnificent residence of our town's founder built? How did a large medieval building site work? What materials were used and how did they arrive on site? Who were the people involved in the construction and who created the magnificent stonework? All this comes to life on a tour of the castle. And we will find out what our imperial palace in Gelnhausen has in common with Venice.
