Traugott

In the organizer's words:

37th Turkish Film Festival

The scientist Traugott Fuchs leaves Nazi Germany in 1934 and finds refuge in Turkey. Unlike many of his contemporaries, he remained in his new homeland after the end of the war, where he taught at universities for over fifty years and left behind a rich legacy of linguistic works, thousands of sketches, around 400 paintings and numerous diaries and letters. The documentary paints the portrait of an idealistic and sensitive man who also struggled with depression, possibly related to an unfulfilled love.

Turkey 2024 | Documentary | 46 min. with Turkish subtitles. Director: Dirk Schäfer

For ten days, the 37th Turkish Film Festival 2026 Munich presents feature films, documentaries and short films at the Royal Filmpalast and Gasteig HP8. They tell of escapes from reality, of inequality and solidarity, of being a woman and a mother, of the power of art and imagination. They provide an insight into what is currently moving society and into the turbulent years of its history. Touching, moving and often with a good dose of humor!
