The attacks by the USA and Israel on Iran make it clear once again that dependence on fossil fuels does not create security, but rather exacerbates conflicts, destabilizes markets and drives up prices worldwide. These developments are leading to massive supply bottlenecks in the Global South in particular, but the consequences have long been felt here too.
At the same time, international movement is emerging: Colombia is hosting the first conference on phasing out fossil fuels at the end of April. An "alliance of the willing" is meeting there to agree on concrete steps towards a post-fossil age.
Europe is facing a double challenge: increasing climate catastrophes and a fragile energy supply in the context of geopolitical crises - from Ukraine to the Middle East. Nevertheless, political responses in Germany and Europe continue to rely on fossil and risky technologies such as fracking and nuclear power.
The alternative is obvious: renewable energies are not only climate-friendly, but also crisis-proof, as sun and wind cannot be blocked.
So how can we achieve a socially just and ecological energy transition that is also a response to geopolitical crises and the political shift to the right?
We want to discuss this together and bring together perspectives from politics and the movement as well as develop concrete approaches for a sustainable energy policy.
