The lives of an ordinary family are inextricably interwoven with the great history over six generations. Oliver Ohmann's journey draws on an unusually large collection of family documents and paints a dense panorama of everyday life in Berlin from the 19th century Vormärz period to the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989. The book recounts the experiences of very different people, each of whom faced the challenges of their time in their own unique way.

Oliver Ohmann, born in Berlin in 1969, studied German literature and ancient history at the Free University of Berlin and has since worked as a journalist and author. He has written various books on the history of sport, film and Berlin. His most recent book, "Menschen am Kaiserdamm", was published by BeBra Verlag.
