In the middle of the urban and multicultural heart of North Neukölln, the gallery in Saalbau on Karl-Marx-Straße presents a variety of artistic projects. As a municipal "local gallery", it offers artists living in Berlin and especially in Neukölln a platform to explore everyday issues and socio-political topics in changing exhibitions. In many cases, this results in a reference to life and the social structure of Neukölln, which the artists express in a wide variety of media.

At least two exhibitions a year are awarded to Neukölln artists by an independent jury of experts in order to present the wealth of artistic production in the district's studios. In addition, the Galerie im Saalbau organizes the exhibition of the nominees for the Neukölln Art Prize, which is sponsored by the Department of Culture in cooperation with the Neukölln Cultural Network and the housing association STADT UND LAND.
