Haydn actually wanted to travel to England as early as 1782. And he had composed his Symphony No. 76 as a souvenir. But Prince Nikolaus I Esterházy vetoed Haydn's travel plans. Thanks to a publisher, the symphony at least made it to the island without him. From London, the Capella Augustina program then takes us twice to Prague: Haydn's brilliant 1st Cello Concerto arrived in the Golden City by mysterious means and is now taken on by the gifted cellist Ursina Maria Braun in an electrifying performance. And Mozart's Symphony No. 38 is famously named "Prague" after its place of premiere. With the commissioned composition "The Anatomical Theater of Mr. Joseph Haydn", Peter Tilling finally sets out in search of Haydn's genius - and to do so, he dissects his (musical) innermost being.
