a research with children about crying
by Julia Brettschneider ● Drama ● 7+
Crying, wailing, blubbering - when feelings get too big and overwhelm us, the tears flow. What do others say when your eyes get wet, your ears red and your shoulders shake? Is that embarrassing? When we cry, something breaks out that might otherwise be held back.
And if the tears do roll, is that a sign of weakness? Perhaps tears of anger, sadness, pain and joy are good for us. Would the world be a better place if we simply sobbed whenever and wherever we wanted? One thing is certain: this moment on the threshold, when we can no longer hold on to ourselves, is a special one. Where can that happen? When can it happen?
In a research project, children in Dresden were asked: Why do we cry? The project provides space for tears and their stories, brings them to the stage and allows the phenomenon to have an effect on us.
