THE DESERTER

May 1945, Tyrolean Alps: the war is drawing to a close. Injured SS soldier Anton (Sebastian D. Fischer) deserts and comes across a remote mountain pasture where the Jewish woman Hannah (Anna Kaminski) is hiding. Despite deep mistrust, she tends to his wounds, while 16-year-old farmer's wife Charlotte (Lana-Mae Lopicic) helps them to cope with the hardships of everyday life. At night, the sounds of fighting between German troops and Italian partisans echo through the mountains. A cautious intimacy grows between Anton and Hannah. He, scarred by his deeds, she, scarred by the loss of her family. But when Hannah learns that Anton was a member of the SS, repressed truths are revealed. While the war is almost over, it remains uncertain what future awaits them. Then Georg (Sandro Kirtzel) suddenly appears - Anton's former friend, now his pursuer. He was the one who shot Anton. Driven by hatred, he fights on even though everything seems to be lost.
