In the radio3 Atelier Talk, presenter Siham El-Maimouni brings artists and scientists together once a month at the intersection of art and research and you can be there live in Roman Lipski's studio in Berlin-Kreuzberg:

We are the robots - Are humans and machines more similar than we think?

Are robots mere machines - or do they develop forms of perception and perhaps even a kind of self? Presenter Siham El-Maimouni talks about this in the radio3 Ateliertalk with Beeple (Mike Winkelmann), Prof. Dr. Verena Hafner (Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin) and the artist Käthe Wenzel.

Beeple's "Regular Animals" shows robotic dog creatures with prominent faces such as those of Elon Musk or Mark Zuckerberg, which scan their surroundings and algorithmically process and output images - an allegory of perception and power in the digital age. Verena Hafner explores how robots perceive, learn and adapt to their environment - and whether a "self-model" can emerge from this. Käthe Wenzel designs hybrid beings between animal, machine and speculative biology with her "Bone Bots".

Together they discuss: If robots learn to perceive themselves and their environment in a more differentiated way - are they still alien to us? Or do they rather show how unstable our idea of consciousness and being human is?
