Europe is under pressure: the war in Ukraine, new conflicts in the Middle East and growing doubts about the reliability of old partners are calling the European security order into question. Is Europe prepared to defend itself in an emergency?

Dr. Holger Stark (Deputy Editor-in-Chief of DIE ZEIT) and Dr. Hannah Neumann MEP (Deputy Head of the German Green Delegation to the European Parliament) will discuss Europe's strategic capacity to act and the future of European foreign and security policy. The discussion will also focus on current proposals for stronger European defense cooperation - and the question of how independent Europe can and should become in terms of security policy.

The starting point will be the analyses and plans for the future developed by SPIEGEL bestselling author Holger Stark in his current book "Das erwachsene Land" on the role of Germany and Europe, as well as Hannah Neumann's perspectives from her work in the European Parliament and as a peace and conflict researcher.

The event will be moderated by Dr. Cornelius Adebahr (Hertie School).

Afterwards there will be an opportunity for questions from the audience.
