Lung cancer is still one of the most common and deadliest forms of cancer - but medicine is making rapid progress. At the next Medizintalk in the Domforum on 21 May at 7.30 pm, we will be welcoming Professor Jürgen Wolf, oncologist and Medical Director of the Center for Integrated Oncology (CIO) at Cologne University Hospital, and Dr. Simon Lennartz, Senior Consultant at the Institute for Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology at Cologne University Hospital, who will be informing us about new early detection options and the current state of science.

Since April 2026, for example, there has been a new lung cancer screening in Germany - especially for smokers. What is behind it? Who is entitled to it and how does the screening work? Simon Lennartz explains how this early detection can save lives.

But what if the tumor has already broken out? Jürgen Wolf provides an insight into the latest treatment options - from targeted drugs and immunotherapies to innovative treatment approaches that were unthinkable just a few years ago. And he looks ahead: Where does research stand today, and what hopes can we have for the future?

Another important aspect of the evening: personal responsibility. What role do lifestyle and smoking cessation play - and how can medicine provide concrete help and support? An evening for everyone who wants to protect themselves.
