Writing was living, surviving is the title of the event with Barbara Kleyboldt (recitation), in which poems and prose by Rose Ausländer will be recited against the background of her biography. It will span an arc from her childhood in Bukovina, through times of emigration, life in the Chernivtsi ghetto to her old age in Düsseldorf-Golzheim. In her poems, Rose Ausländer traces the stages of her life; with a simple, artistic choice of words, she allows an insight into her innermost being, into her childhood, into the time of the upsetting Nazi persecution, into her heart as she attempts reconciliation.
