Monday, April 13: Living Spaces
presented by the SK Stiftung Kultur

The short film program ties in thematically with the exhibition "Lebensräume - Zeitgenössische Perspektiven aus NRW" by the Photographische Sammlung/SK Stiftung Kultur and shows documentary short films from the living space of North Rhine-Westphalia. The selected works understand living spaces as places of coexistence in which rituals, affiliations and everyday habits are revealed and formed.

Five films from NRW take a curious look at what surrounds us: Platforms and allotments, asphalt squares, slag heaps and backyards. They are about people who appropriate spaces, shape them - or simply let themselves drift in them.

From April 14 to 19, the cinema ticket entitles you to free admission to the exhibition of the Photographic Collection in Mediapark 7.

Cruiser (DE, 2022, Nils Ramme/ Felix Bartke/ Fabian Martin Anger, documentary, 22 min.)
Fragments of an Oberhausen subculture that transfers the symbols and practices of the outlaw motorcycle scene to cycling. The rituals of the group and the sensuality towards their two-wheelers are at the center of the film alongside the construction of masculinities.

Ali sein Garten (DE, 2010, documentary, Undine Siepker, 15')
Between giant Turkish beans, Korean drums, lawnmowers, headscarves, garden gnomes and pork sausages, the allotment garden principle always prevails in the end, regardless of nationality: People learn from each other and enjoy the results.

DEMO (DE, 2024, experimental film, Dora Cohnen, 14')
Portrait of a place: We spend a summer on the Gummiplatz, in the federal government's demonstrative construction project, "Demo" for short, in the south of Cologne.

Infant Finches - Blind Walk (DE, 2022, music video, Janosch Pugnaghi, 4')
A look at what is happening on and around Cologne's Ebertplatz. In a plan sequence, the music video shows the parallelism of everyday situations in the city center: a picnic between the cars, yoga on asphalt in the backyard... It's summer.

Haltestelle Hansaring (DE, 2008, Tama Tobias Macht, documentary, 6')
A portrait of the Hansaring S-Bahn station in Cologne. With views out of and into the apartments adjacent to the platform. A constant alternation of movement and standstill, waiting, observing and looking away.

RUHRURBIA (DE, 2014, Rainer Komers, documentary, 30')
Choreography of a post-industrial region that is its own museum and future landscape, Occident and Orient in one. Last sentence: "And so the earth turns", spoken on a recreational dump.
