Urzeitkrebse – lebende Fossilien

In the organizer's words:

An introduction to the fascinating world of prehistoric crustaceans - the oldest living creatures on earth.

Prehistoric crustaceans bear their name because they have lived on earth for several hundred million years - long before the dinosaurs populated it. Many people are familiar with prehistoric crustaceans such as triops and brine shrimps from experimental and breeding sets. But our native water fleas are also relatives of living fossils.

During our guided tour, we want to get to the bottom of these fascinating creatures. We start with an introductory talk about the appearance, lifestyle and occurrence of the animals. We will learn what makes prehistoric crabs so special.

We will then set off together in the Spreepark in search of water fleas. We will take a closer look at the animals we find under magnification. In addition, there will be living representatives of other prehistoric crustacean species available for us to observe and classify.
