Domenica Niehoff (1945-2009) was born in Cologne and came from a precarious family background, which is why her mother placed her and her sister in the former Sülz children's home.

This evening tells the story of her life there under the strict regiment of the nuns, her experiences in the children's home church, today's VENTANA, her relationships, her entry into prostitution - first in Cologne, later in the Hamburg neighborhood.

Domenica officially left prostitution in 1990. In 1991, she co-founded the association "Ragazza e.V.", which enabled women and girls working on the streets to leave sex work - and she demonstrated for the rights of sex workers.

She inspired writers, artists and musicians - some of whom she was involved with - and many celebrities sought her company.

Alice Schwarzer conducted a sensational interview with her in October 1988 for the magazine "EMMA".

Domenica Niehoff would have been 80 years old in August 2025.

Beate Marks-Hanßen reads texts by and about Domenica and tells the story of the "craft of love" from antiquity to the present day,

Birgit Heinemann (violoncello) and Jan Weigelt (piano) play selected music to accompany the various stages of the evening.
