Philharmonie trifft Jazz »Different Eyes«

Following the world premiere of his "Tikkun" suite at Friday Concert № 6, Uriel Herman moves even closer to the audience at "Philharmonie trifft Jazz": his album title "Different Eyes" becomes the program. In 2019, the classically trained Israeli jazz pianist and composer was a guest in Jena with his quartet. Now he returns to take a new look at familiar and distant soundscapes together with musicians from the Jena Philharmonic Orchestra. The spectrum ranges from Israeli songs to Brazilian classics by Antônio Carlos Jobim and Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit". These pieces are not mere quotations, but lovingly reshaped memories for chamber ensemble and piano. In the arrangements, as in his own works, jazz energy and Middle Eastern rhythms merge into a pulsating whole. It is music that transcends borders and allows us to see familiar horizons with different eyes. /JN
