40 years of the Gasteig and 25 years of the Long Night of Music - if that's not a reason to celebrate! The cult series "Same Old Song" by JJ Jones dedicates the evening to birthday songs of all kinds, interpreted by a wide variety of artists. Participation expressly encouraged!

This event is part of the festival The Long Night of Music 2026

To celebrate its double anniversary, Gasteig HP8 is looking for amateurs and professionals to reinterpret birthday-themed songs. Quiet or loud. Polyphonic or solo. Classical, playful or radically against the grain. Anyone who sings in a choir, plays in a band, rehearses with their school class or makes music in the living room in the evening is welcome. And even those who have never been on stage before but have a birthday song idea can be part of the birthday marathon. The aim: during the Long Night of Music at Gasteig HP8, a song that would otherwise fade away between candles and cake becomes an event. And a dusty ritual becomes a big party.

JJ Jones, who was born in Detroit and lives in Munich, launched the "Same Old Song" format in 2013 with a marathon interpretation of Led Zeppelin's classic "Stairway to Heaven". Since then, there have been 43 editions at 14 locations. Joining in and celebrating is expressly encouraged. "Everyone can be part of this unique collective concert," says JJ Jones. "Whether it's five minutes or a short performance - every voice counts."

So that as many people as possible can take part, "Same Old Song" is providing its own band. The quartet of guitar, bass, keyboard and drums will accompany anyone who would like support in presenting their version of a birthday song. In this way, every idea is musically supported and every voice is given the right setting.
