Welcome to the 37th Turkish Film Festival Munich!

You can expect 10 days full of exciting events that invite you to immerse yourself in the film landscapes from and about Turkey.
This year we can look forward to many guests from the Turkish film industry, including the renowned Turkish actress Nur Sürer.

ROOTLESS RESIDENT accompanies Yervant Demirci, a blacksmith born in the province of Mardin, on his journey through the complex web of Armenian-Turkish-Kurdish identities in Turkey and Armenia. Yervant's linguistic journey begins with Kurdish, continues with Turkish as he enters school and finally leads him back to his Armenian roots as he attempts to relearn his mother tongue. The documentary follows Demirci's efforts to connect with his cultural heritage across two countries and three cities - despite the linguistic and cultural boundaries that define him as "Kurdish-Armenian" and "Turkish-Armenian". ROOTLESS RESIDENT opens up a space of experience at the interface of past and present. The images are characterized by historical and political symbols: from Derik's transformation from a once majority Armenian region to a Kurdish-influenced city, to the vibrant Armenian community in Istanbul's Samatya district, to the tranquil landscape of Ayntap in Armenia.

YERLİ YURTSUZ, Mardin'in Derik ilçesinde doğan demir ustası Yervant Demirci'yi Türkiye ve Ermenistan arasında uzanan, Ermeni-Türk-Kürt kimliklerinin iç içe geçtiği karmaşık bir yolculukta izliyor. Yervant'ın dil serüveni Kürtçe ile başlar; okul yıllarında Türkçe ile devam eder ve bugün ana dilini yeniden öğrenme çabasıyla Ermeni köklerine doğru bir dönüşe evrilir. Belgesel, Demirci'nin kendisini "Kürt-Ermeni" ve "Türk-Ermeni" olarak tanımlayan dilsel ve kültürel sınırların ötesinde, iki ülke ve üç şehir boyunca kültürel mirasıyla yeniden bağ kurma arayışını takip eder.
Film, geçmiş ile bugün arasındaki kesişimi görsel olarak da katmanlandırır: Bir zamanlar çoğunluğu Ermeni olan Derik'in tarihsel dönüşümünden, İstanbul Samatya'daki canlı Ermeni topluluğuna; Ermenistan'daki Ayntap'ın dingin kırsalına uzanan imgeler, tarihsel ve politik sembollerle örülür. YERLİ YURTSUZ, aidiyetin sabit bir yerden çok bir süreç olduğunu hatırlatan, sakin ve derinlikli bir belgesel deneyimi sunar.
