This year we can look forward to many guests from the Turkish film industry, including the renowned Turkish actress Nur Sürer.

What remains of a person after death? In the case of the German scholar Traugott Fuchs, his gravestone in the Protestant cemetery in Istanbul's Feriköy district is a reminder not only of the academic's eventful life, but also of a piece of German-Turkish history. Traugott Fuchs emigrated from Germany to Turkey in 1934, fleeing the National Socialist regime. There he taught German language and literature at universities and became a legend as a teacher. After his death, thousands of private documents, paintings and devoted drawings were found in his apartment. These narrowly escaped destruction and today form the basis of a newly created archive at the Orient Institute in Istanbul. This shows the image of an idealistic, sensitive man who struggled with severe depression throughout his life. This may also have had something to do with an unfulfilled love for a man named Süleyman. Dirk Schäfer has created this portrait against the backdrop of his own biography, with a fictional dialog unfolding between him and Fuchs. Supplementary interviews with contemporary witnesses provide an intimate insight into the inner world of Traugott the man.

Bir insanın ölümünden sonra geriye ne kalır? Alman bilim insanı Traugott Fuchs'un İstanbul Feriköy'deki Protestan Mezarlığı'nda bulunan mezarı, yalnızca bir akademisyenin yaşamını değil, aynı zamanda Almanya ile Türkiye arasındaki ortak bir tarih kesitini de hatırlatır.
Traugott Fuchs, Nazi rejiminden kaçarak 1934 yılında Almanya'dan Türkiye'ye sığınır. Almanca dili ve edebiyatı alanında üniversitelerde ders verir, kuşaklar boyunca öğrencilerine ilham kaynağı olan bir öğretmen olarak tanınır. Savaşın ardından pek çok meslektaşının aksine Türkiye'den ayrılmaz; yaşamının geri kalanını İstanbul'da geçirir. Vefatının ardından evinde bulunan binlerce özel belge, eskiz, resim, günlük ve mektup, neredeyse yok olmaktan kurtarılır ve bugün İstanbul'daki Orient-Institut'ta oluşturulan bir arşivin temelini oluşturur. Bu miras, yaşam dolu ama kırılgan, duyarlı bir insanın izlerini taşır. Film, Fuchs'un yaşamı boyunca mücadele ettiği depresyonlara ve Süleyman adlı bir adama duyduğu karşılıksız aşkla bağlantılı olabilecek içsel çatışmalarına da dikkatle yaklaşır.
