Anthony, just released from a psychiatric hospital, gets involved in a curious 'career plan' as a criminal by his eccentric friend Dignan. Together with mild-mannered Bob, they embark on an amateurish odyssey through Texas in search of adventure, belonging and the big score. But between amateurish heists and emotional aberrations, the facade of the grand plan quickly crumbles... Bottle Rocket is Wes Anderson's feature film debut and marks the beginning of his collaboration with Owen and Luke Wilson, who played their first major roles here. The film thrives on its laconic humor, the warm-hearted character portrayal of young dreamers and a charming mixture of slacker comedy and quiet coming-of-age story. Anderson's flair for stylized visual compositions and his very own emotional tonality, which would soon make him a formative director of American indie cinema, is already evident here.
