The Dane in Berlin - what's it like? We can share a few selected impressions with you: She likes the fact that you "don't have to deal with bullshit" here, that she can do everything freely in this bustling and colorful Eldorado of the arts. She doesn't like having to deal with the German tax authorities or having to spend half an hour at the doctor's doing paperwork before having five minutes left for the examination. And then it's done: She speaks from her soul.

Her music shows that she is capable of this - delicate and mysterious, hovering between melancholy and light, between security and uncertainty. Agnes Obel has mastered the powerful art of quiet magic and playing with inseparable opposites: Since her acclaimed debut Philharmonics, the Danish singer, pianist and composer has been enchanting listeners with a calm sound that is both intimate and monumental at the same time.

Coincidence? Nope! Silence is not only the musical stylistic device in her songs, but also the framework for her work. Obel's songs are often created in quiet rooms, privately and very much for herself. There she forms a sound from flowing piano playing, multi-layered vocal harmonies and subtle melancholy that is reminiscent of chamber music and yet sounds timelessly modern.

Agnes Obel has become known not only for her unmistakable sound aesthetics, but also for her ability to understand music as a form of storytelling. Her compositions reflect a certain sensitivity for the unsaid, for the subtle fractures of life, and somehow each piece seems to be a fragment of a larger story. Admittedly: The story with the corporation in magenta is not one of her favorites, although the song "Just So" will probably remain a part of our musical memory forever. Fortunately, the exceptional artist is not dependent on this - her other works such as "Riverside", "Familiar" and "Fuel to Fire" are too good and celebrated. Quiet intensity that lingers for a long time: Now finally, after 15 years, a reunion at the Kulturarena in Jena.
