We are in the cellar. Not in one of those damp, dark rooms where heavy-duty shelves, old bicycles and forgotten things are piled up. We are in one that is warm and invites you to stay. The lighting is cozy, wood paneling, a bar and tables close together give the room a cozy atmosphere. A small stage forms the centerpiece.

There is good wine, tapas and perhaps a slice of cheesecake. Conversations mingle with quiet laughter, glasses clink, anticipation is in the air and there are selected artists on stage just waiting to fill this special atmosphere with their passion. The show begins. The ambience carries the music, the music carries the room - fiery and intimate at the same time. The guests, a mixture of regulars, the curious and tourists, applaud to funk, soul, R'n'B, Afrobeat and jazz from four great musicians. Welcome: We are at Dièse Onze in Montréal: a place where jazz is not just played, but lived. One of the best jazz clubs in the world - or so they say. And anyone who has ever been here will perhaps understand why.

The Brooks and its four core members understand this particularly well: bandleader and bassist Alexandre Lapointe, singer and trombonist Alan Prater, guitarist Philippe Look and percussionist Philippe Beaudin know exactly how to fill such clubs with life and they have been to this one particularly often.

The band has long since conquered the world's major festival stages - from Canada and France to Morocco, Denmark, Belgium, Switzerland, Estonia and Mexico. No matter where the musicians are, the stage is a kind of home for them and only one thing takes center stage there: "pure joy of playing, genuine artistic freedom and equal creativity." Their energetic music incorporates influences from fifty years of African-American music and is truly something to be heard. In addition to their five studio albums, Jena doesn't want to miss out on the powerhouse that they deliver live: Rhythmic energy, great vocals, dynamic horns, creative keyboard work and striking guitar lines that interlock effortlessly.
